The Suppressed Listing Check That Recovers Amazon Traffic

Sometimes sales drop for reasons that have nothing to do with strategy. The listing itself has been partially suppressed.

One of the smallest operational checks in an Amazon account is also one of the most valuable: reviewing suppressed and inactive listings.

Sometimes sales drop, ad delivery slows, or organic ranking softens for reasons that have nothing to do with strategy. The listing itself has been partially suppressed. Amazon has flagged an image, required additional product information, or detected a compliance issue that took the listing partway offline without generating an obvious alert.

Most sellers don't check this weekly. They should.

Why suppression is easy to miss

Amazon's suppression system doesn't always fire a red-flag notification. Sometimes the listing appears active in your catalog dashboard, ads are still eligible to run, but a required attribute is missing or an image was flagged for compliance. Impressions quietly drop. Ads stop showing on certain placements. Conversion decays because the listing is missing a key element.

By the time you notice sales sliding, the suppression may have been in place for weeks.

The five-minute weekly check

Image compliance.

Amazon regularly updates its image guidelines. Main images need pure white backgrounds, no text overlays, no promotional graphics. If Amazon's system flags your main image, the listing may lose Buy Box eligibility. Check every main image against current guidelines.

Required attributes.

Some categories require specific attributes: material, size, dimensions, certifications. If your listing is missing a newly required field, it may be suppressed from search results without a hard failure. Check Seller Central's listing quality dashboard.

Variation issues.

Parent-child listings occasionally lose their proper connections. Child ASINs get orphaned. Variation swatches disappear. This can happen after a catalog upload or when Amazon runs a data cleanup. Confirm your variation family is intact and every child ASIN is properly linked.

Seller Central dashboard notifications.

Seller Central shows listing alerts in the "Fix your products" section, but many sellers don't check it weekly. Suppressed or incomplete listings often show up here first. It takes thirty seconds to review.

Account health and policy notifications.

Some listing issues cascade from account health warnings. If you have a pending policy notification on an ASIN, that alone can suppress the listing until you respond.

Why this matters

Suppression is one of the sneakiest problems in an Amazon account because it doesn't announce itself. You'll know something is wrong when sales drop, but by then you've already lost weeks of ranking and momentum.

A five-minute weekly check catches almost all of these issues before they compound. If you're not running that check, you're leaving revenue on the table.

What to do this week

Log into Seller Central, go to "Manage Inventory," filter by "Suppressed," and see what shows up. Then check "Fix your products" and account health notifications. If anything appears, resolve it today.
